About Thajiwas Glacier
Thajiwas Glacier is a spectacular glacier located just 7 km from Sonamarg town, making it one of the most accessible glaciers in the Indian Himalayas. The glacier descends from a high cirque in the Himalayan range, feeding the Sind river with crystal-clear meltwater. Even in the height of summer, the glacier retains massive ice formations and snow fields, offering visitors a taste of the high-altitude alpine world without requiring technical mountaineering skills.
The trek to the glacier passes through lush pine forests, wildflower-strewn meadows, and alongside a roaring glacial stream. As you approach, the temperature drops dramatically and the landscape transitions from green meadows to a stark, beautiful world of ice and rock. Ponies are available for those who prefer not to trek. Thajiwas is a highlight of any Sonamarg visit and a must-do experience in Kashmir.
